Time for the weekly report. Mackerel are finally in pretty thick. My last four trips we have easily caught 80+ within 10 minutes upon arrival. Some big boys in the mix, but lots and lots of smaller tinker mackerel, which we all know is striper candy. There have been plenty of fish to feed them too as well as we have caught a few fish in the upper 30 inch range the past weekend with reports during the week of a few 40+ fish being taken early in the morning.
Friday and Saturday we had repeat customers Argir and his crew aboard for a two day adventure. Friday was exceptional with the best live bait striper fishing the season has produced so far with 5 keeper stripers up to 37 inches and about a dozen from 24 - 27. Saturday was a little slower with two keepers and another lost just within a few feet of the boat and about 6 or so 24 - 27 inch fish. We had a few run offs, but the fish were being super finicky while taking the bait unlike Friday when the were ripping off with an attitude.
Sunday was spent doing a little exploring where I got two nice fish at 33 and 35 inches a piece mid day in only an hour or so of fishing without getting bait. Due to weather, I had to move Monday's trip to Thursday. We have a great afternoon tide the rest of the week where I will be fishing charter or not, and the weekend is setting up to be epic with the tide, morning, bait, and big fish rolling in by the day.
It is crazy to me that I have THIS SATURDAY AVAILABLE both in the morning and PM. We should be able to hit the same tide twice in one day! Let's go fishing!
